Famous Dancers

Ray Hirsch and Patti Lacey

Although Ray considers himself more of a Jitterbug than a Shag Dancer, he and his partner Patti Lacey, were featured doing shag steps in more Hollywood films than any other dancer. Ray broke into the film business, when he was a student at Hollywood High, after winning first place in a local jitterbug contest. After that, he found himself appearing in several films doing the jitterbug and shag.

Connie Weidell

Conrad "Connie" Weidell is credited with bringing the dance we know today as Collegiate Shag to the West Coast. His unique dancing style and passion for the dance influnenced many dancers including, Dean Collins, Hal Takier, Ray Hirsch, and Fred and George Christopherson who never danced true shag, but adapted shag steps and shine moves into their dancing.

Tom Gallagher

One of Arthur Murray's "students", he is considered one of the original collegiate shag dancers, and is one of the spotlight leads in the Arthur Murray Short from 1937
